Default New EV27 Cam installed

I'm all smiles now. It made a very noticeable difference and the King runs great. Start to finish it probably took me in excess of 8 hours taking my time but I don't do this every day.. I elected to reuse the original pushrods which of course is more work.. Stuck a new cam bearing, EV27 and S&S lifters, I probably didn't need to do the lifters as it only had 12K on the motor. Rode it in to work today which about 35 miles is interstate, holy crap does it pull great at highway speeds on up....first time the old gal hit 100 mph. (at least that's what the speedo said).

Yes! I've been running the EV27 since 1994. I'm actually on my second one, since the first one developed some crystallization after 22 years. Stock push rods work fine. The EV27 is a 'bolt-in' cam. Did you re-use your OEM cam gear?

There will be a lot of opinions on cam selection, but for my riding style I've been very happy with the EV27 in my FLHS (forerunner of the FLHR). You'll really notice the difference when riding two up. I can hold speed up steep grades and still have lots of twist left to pass slower vehicles.

Add a high flow (SE air cleaner is good) filter, a set of slip-on mufflers, re-tune the CV carb and you'll really have the bike The MoCo should have produced (had the EPA allowed them to). If you really want to feel that cam, upgrade the ignition to a Dyna, etc. and raise the rev limit. Rev that EVO and smile, smile, smile.

No I did not have to reuse the original cam gear. The gear on the new cam was fine. As my original was red coded. There is no gear whine or click clack. IN fact it is a very quiet cam if you ask me, no more noise than OEM. I do have a Big sucker AC and SE slip ons. The carb was done up by Dales Killer Motorcycle Products. Running a 48/190 When he's done with the carb its polished & looks like chrome in the throat & slide.

You got lucky.
When I put mine in there was a god awful gear whine but every mechanic I talked to said just run it and it will go away in 5k or so.
They were right.
I was very happy when that whine went away!!!!!!!

That's make me wonder if you do have gear whine and a mechanic telling you it will go away in 5K miles, just what is going to wear in? The gears or the top of the bushing in the cam cover? I would think I would be worried about where is the wear material going? Just a thought. Not saying its right or wrong..

If the new red cam gear was over size you would immediately have heard it. You'll be fine. Quite thinking about it..... Ride on.....
