Boy am I glad I checked with you guys, even called Cometics to confirm as suggested above No sealant should be used. I also ordered the Cometics off eBay and saved a few bucks, and it should be here Tuesday of next week if not before.

are you sure it'scoming from there? could be the inner primary bearing seal or the trans main drive gear bearing seal. maybe your pulley is loose ? i would clean really good and inspect before replaceing that gasket.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that's where its coming from. I have had this slow primary fluid leak for a couple of years. After good cleaning and getting under there with my glasses and flashlight I can see the old gasket getting wet right in the area of that bottom back bolt, then a drip forming there later on, that is definitely primary fluid.

I used a little Permatex Hi-Tack on mine just to hold the gasket in place while I put the outer cover on. No ill effects several thousand miles later. But if you do it right, you shouldn't need anything except the gasket. (I had mine on and off a couple of times when I installed my Hayden tensioner. Long night...)

I had the same oil residue and drip on the floor in the same spot. Turned out to be my starter jackshaft seal. I went to a compufire starter ring and starter jackshaft gear. I must have buggerd it up. Maybe your may be hard and letting fluid out.
