Default Outer Primary Case Sealing Tips Please

1998 FLSTF

I have a primary case leak between the outer and inner primary case at the bottom rear bolt area. I have some Loctite 518 and Loctite 7649 Primer but I'm wondering, should I apply to both sides to be bonded, or just one side, and should I even get a gasket and apply to both sides or single side of that, or what would you suggest.

You should get a gasket.

An AFM gasket works best.
It's got an aluminum core with dense foam on each side.
Seals great and is reusable.

Would you guys suggest this then:

http://www.cometic.com/i-24866500-ha...ry-gasket.html

Instead of the 518 or in addition. I'm figuring without the 518 but just wanted to make sure.

Loctite 518 is a anaerobic sealer gasket material, supposed to be good stuff but I have never tried it before.

Also, just saw this gasket on eBay

Are you certain it's coming from the primary cover? I had a leak like that a number of years ago and it turned out to be the output shaft seal on the transmission.

Call this number (440) 354-0777 and ask their (Cometics) recommendations. Never have been a big fan of gasket sealers. May not be needed.

In that case no don't use it.
You won't need it and it will probably cause the foam to tear off the gasket when you remove it.

The only place you want to use a sealer is between the case halves.
Don't use it anywhere else on your bike!!!!!

That is the same gasket and yes that is what I use on my bike.

Gasket from HD is fine, use no sealer. Just make sire that you clean all of the old gasket off both sides before you put it back together.
