You really need to take pictures of what you are dealing with. Remember the old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words.

I've only ever converted points bikes to electronic ignition - the benefits are remarkable, not least starting which is made more easy! Points are like building a bike with a rear chain FFS, so last Century! I agree with Prot, some photos would help. If we chew this bone long enough we'll get things sorted and running.

That's a different issue. Look at the picture. Make sure No. 9- breaker cam goes into No. 10-advance assembly correctly.

If that's correct, then you have to step back. Worse case, collapse PRs, pull cam cover off, and see if the cam is correctly set with pinion gear and breather gear (if stock).

Good luck.

first off set the point gap at .018 on the small lobe. are you getting the front cyl. up on the compression stroke at TDC ? if so the points rubbing block should be on the small lobe. get the little tool for holding the advance unit in the advanced postion while the engine is at TDC and then rotate the timer plate until the point break contact. you can use a light with key oin or an ohm meter with key off to static time it. you can also use a pair of needle nose channel locks to hold the advance unit in place too. if none of this is lining up like it should it may be time to pull the cam cover and have a look at how thw cam is timed. good luck !

If a photo is worth a thousand words then here's two grand in mostly f-bombs. I have pulled the nose cone off and rechecked timing marks they line up. Photo under advance is showing where cam keyway is at top dead center. It's the wide lude on points follower that is up.

Are you sure you have the front piston on the compression stroke? IE, both intake and exhaust valves are closed, as seen by looking at the tappets. It may be that you have the engine one revolution out of position, which would put the points cam half a revolution out of position and give you the fat lobe instead of teh skinny one.

If not, then you can take the whole points backing plate out and turn it around 180 degrees and put it back in so that the narrow lobe is at teh points heel.
