EVO Electrical - Intermittent Signal Light Always On
This is an oddball and I didn't find any troubleshooting info in the Service Manual of use.
Sometimes my left/front turn signal light will stay on - not just oscillating on/off but solid on.
All the signals work normally - either when this light staying on is happening or not.
I have checked both the front and rear bulbs (replaced front to no avail) - cleaned out the '90s version of dielectric grease and applied some modern stuff for good measure.
All the lights work as expected. In some of my prior vehicles, this would happen when another bulb was going bad but that doesn't seem to be the case.
One possible clue is that it happened today when I was whomping on the gas in the range near the rev limit.
The front turn signal light should be a dual filament bulb.
Reason: The light assembly will shine yellow when the ignition is ON because the running filament within the bulb is receiving power.
If a filament for the constantly ON running light within the bulb breaks then the filament might make contact with the other filament within the bulb.
Consider review of the actual bulb.
My guess is that a filament within the bulb in question is broken.
Ahh - will check that out. I tried replacing but since it was intermittent I thought it couldn't be the bulb.
As far as running lights - my model has the headlight, turn signals and brakes. Should the turn signals stay on , ie running lights? They never have - didn't think/know they should.
I was curious why a double filament bulb in there. The way it always worked (as with my other bikes) - turn signals only light on turn; headlight always on - brake light always on with additional filament used when stopping. Is that right?
The schematic in the Service Manual does say that there are running lights and they appear to not be switched?
So I pulled the "working" bulb on the other side - it turns out one of the filaments was open - resulting in the running light part not working. So that is why I thought the part that was on was doing something wrong.
Now I have replaced both bulbs and now get running lights when the switch is on!

Well I'm glad you got that fixed but are you still having your original problem of the blinker not flashing?
The blinkers were always flashing as expected. That's why I was so mystified - everything else was normal with the other element in the bulb being intermittent.
