Default 1985 fxrs

Anyone who has a 1985 FXRS knows that draining the oil out of the oil tank can be a challenge. In order to make this task easier I have been looking at the EZ oil drain plug. Has anyone used one? What experience have you had with it? Is it likely to open up from the vibrations? Any experience you have with the EZ oil drain plug or another would be appreciated.

Thanks

Had an 82 FXR tried a gadget similar and it never sealed completely, ended cutting a gear oil bottle into a funnel for it. Less hassle the worry about the gadget failing went away.

One of the aftermarket guys used to sell a chrome oil tank with the drain plug located down low on the shifter side. I tossed the idea around quite a bit but in the end just used the cut up oil bottle like the OP did. Did it still make a mess? Hell yeah. If you crammed a rag under the plug oil loss was minimal. Tilting the bike far over to the right also helped. The FXR drain location was factory dumb to begin with. It made zero sense.

Put one on our 1985 FXRS in mid-1990's. Never had an issue. Tighten nut- keeps oil inside. Loosen nut- oil drains out. Using same washer and hose since then.

My first oil change on a 85 FXRT was a monumental mess. I finally ended up using a kerosene siphon to pump the oil from the tank by hand. Only change oil in summer weather when really hot. Hot oil pumps better.
