88 softail question

Default 88 softail question

so I just picked up a 88 fxstc and have a question, on the top of the primary there is a round filter shaped piece anyone tell me what that is?

Sure, it's the starter solenoid. It handles the engagement of the two high tension leads and operates a shift fork that engages the drive unit. You should be able to see it right behind the clutch basket.

A Factory Service Manual will answer most questions you have.

Out of curiosity, why did you remove the outer Primary cover, leak or clutch trouble?

I didnt take it off that was just a pick i found online. It just sparked my interst cause i had never seen a primary with that design.
