So, I'm changing handle bars on my bobber. Want to go to 10" Apes. Got the handle bars and new, longer clutch cable. Got everything changed over and went to adjust the clutch cable. Turned the adjuster on the cable all the way out and no luck. Took it back off and compared it to my original. The inner cable is a solid 1 1/4" longer than the one that was on the bike. I have a Baker 5 speed transmission but, I didn't think that would make any difference. Am I missing something?

Are you saying you only replaced the inner clutch cable??
Does the clutch cable screw into the tranny or is it attached above it with the fingers used by older transmissions??
A few pictures of exactly what you have might help.
Did you adjust the clutch adjustment at the clutch hub before doing the cable adjustment?
All together correct. Took the cable back off and ran a thin nut on the stem that goes into the tranny. All is good now. Perfect adjustment and release. Thanks for the suggestions.

So the cable jacket was too short for the inner cable??
It is from Bikers Choice. Ordered one 68 1/2" long. The inner cable is a bit longer than it should be. I put a 1/4" nut on the spud that screws into the trans case and all is good now. Just sucks that it had to come back apart again. Oh well, next time its Barnetts. LOL

If I need a cable of any kind I get it from Barnett.
Something doesn't add up here. If the cable was too long for the sleeve before, then adding 1/4" to the effective sleeve length doesn't seem like enough. At best, you're still right at the very end of the adjustnent.
My guess is that your ball and ramp mechanism wasn't set correctly the first time. Happened to me before. Just as described. When you opened it back up to add the nut, you also inadvertently corrected the ball and ramp.

Highly possible since I'm working on two bikes at the same time. Been working on my bobber, changing the bars, adding a small front fender, larger gas tank and general maintenance. With this one apart, the charging system on my Ultra took a dump. Had to have something to ride so, while waiting on parts, I slammed the bobber back together temporally. This is what it looks like right now.
