Let me mention that our seats for the 1985-86 FXs are discontinued, so you will very likely have a buyer come forward for that Mustang seat if you don't plan to keep it. We get requests at least monthly for these.
And they were a darn comfy seat, good for all day.
FWIW '85 was a transition year for heads and engine studs.
Early '85 had shovel style engine studs and late '85 had the current studs.
Early '85 heads have a smaller hole for engine studs than late '85.
Current head bolts won't fit through E'85 heads.
Just some information I found when working on a friends bike.
I always have to wonder when I hear this kinda "stuff"
The EVO uses thru bolts to attach the Heads... the shovelhead sandwich is completely and absolutely unique to Shovelheads... while the EVO sandwich could not possibly the fasteners found in the Shovel...Shovel "studs" are all of an inch long....

There is an '86 FXWG in the shop right now...and it utilizes a regular 4 speed seat... but, with the "prongs" removed, and a groove put into the leading edge of rhe seat pan... seems to work really well...and 4-speed seats are quite common!!!
