Default 1985 fxsb

Hi I just ended up picking up a 1985 fxsb. Wasn't really what I was looking fit but with 10,0000 miles only, and someone really seemed to have loved it in it's day, even put chrome mags on it. I'm trying to avoid getting carried away cutting it up too much, but when it comes to the seat I'm kinda stuck on what to do. It came with two seats, one I assume is the factory one, other is a mustang. Both are far too big and not my style. Right now welding on a spring solo seat seems to be my only option, but hate to do it to such a uncommon bike. Any ideas?

Let me mention that our seats for the 1985-86 FXs are discontinued, so you will very likely have a buyer come forward for that Mustang seat if you don't plan to keep it. We get requests at least monthly for these.

Well send them my way. The mustang seat is like brand new, just meant for a much larger person then myself. .

85's are pretty rare. HD only built about 35,000 bikes that year.

Yeah kinda figured that out after buying it. So I'm stuck with it now and trying to make the best of it

FWIW '85 was a transition year for heads and engine studs.
Early '85 had shovel style engine studs and late '85 had the current studs.
Early '85 heads have a smaller hole for engine studs than late '85.
Current head bolts won't fit through E'85 heads.

Just some information I found when working on a friends bike.

I'd like not to mess it up too much but with the limit of parts I'm not sure that's a option lol. Only 10k on it so it never really got to see much road time

Nice Low Rider. Reminds me of mine when I bought it.

It's going thru a make-over right now, won't look anything like stock, but I have all the stock parts stashed away except for the seat (It was in pretty bad shape when I bought the Mustang seat for it, I may still have the seat pan.) I think I still have the stock pipes.

Thanks and yeah, anything I change I'm trying to unbolt and put in a box and save so if I ever want it back to factory or someone needs restore parts I'll have them. You don't happen to have the dash setup do you?
