front end wobbles after tire change.
As far as balance goes... have your Indy install Dyna Beads in both wheels, you won't regret that at all.
I have gone through this twice on 2 bikes after a front tire change. Went down the checklist and found nothing wrong. My Harley dealer service manager stated to ride the bike and let him know. After 500 miles it cleared up. He tells me this happens with some new tires and the belts in the tire need to seat/cure. It took care of both bikes I had it happen to.
On my 1994 Ultra Classic I had the tire front tire rerplaced and now the front end wobbles at 80+ mph in a straight line.
If Im leaning into a curve it will begin to wobble at 70+ mph
Before the tire replacement the bike would cruise without any problems at 100 mph. According to the speedo...
I live in California and keeping up with traffic is the law...
The wobble isn't a shake. The frame will go one way and the forks the other. Think of it as what your front does if you were to weave in between cones at a slow speed. If I put some drag on the front brakes it will straighten out but return immediatly when I release the brakes. It began to wobble as soon as I got on the freeway on my wy home from thje bike shop.
Details on the tire change.
Tire replaced with HD Dunlop stock size.
Bearings replaced.
New wheel seals.
balancing took no weights.
New valve stem and pressure is good.
Rotation is correct.
Brakes are good.
Fork oil has less than 3,000 miles.
Theres no "slop" in any of the fasteners/moving parts.
Everything looks correct and I'm not sure where else to look.
Returning it to the shop is my last resort.
Do any of you guys have any suggestions on where to begin on the diagnosis?
Thanks in advance.
I called the owner of the shop and he gave me the run around so I wont be returning my bike there. The oil that he "changed" was just as dark as it was when I dropped it off.......
I bought what I needed to check my end play however when I went to put it up on my motorcycle jack the bottle jack had nothing left to give. I wasted about three hours of my time/a bottle of fluid taking it apart, cleaning it, and refreshing the seals. It didn't return to its former glory so now it is the base/weight with weels keeping my bandsaw upright and mobile. Twenty something years as a motorcycle jack.... It was time for a demotion. We never worked well together anayway.
Moving foward I am going to pick up a new jack hopefully this weekend. Then I will start with diagnosis. Going to follow through with all of your suggestions. BTW thank you everyone for your support.
They replaced my wheel bearings because the old ones were SMOKED!!! You guys probably already figured that out frm the picture.
JMB19 What you want are Harley dealer part #s53376-97 and 53422-97 to get rid of the tour pack. Around $100 and you will have to adjust because the mounting nut that I'm pointing to is on the other hole if I remember correctly. Its an easy mod though. My seat is a LE PERA SMOOTH FULL LENGTH LPL-867. I paid around $300 for it and just incase you were wondering my dash is not correct for the bike. Thats why the seat overlaps it. Couldn't stand the CB dash. Your back fender should already have the bolt hole for the seat. If you need some more detailed pics let me know and I will do my best to get them.
