Default '96 FXD rear tire question

So I hate beating a dead horse and I've been researching for almost 3 weeks trying to get a clear answer on this. I'm trying to see what the widest tire I can fit on a stock 1996 fxd rim without any mods. I've posted in the wheel and tire forum and got a few back and forth answers that you can do a 140 or 150 tire. And one of the guys suggested i ask here. So before I go buy tires this week can I comfortably fit a 140/85 with a rider or should I just stick to the 130 and wait to do a wide tire kit down the road? I know one guy said I could with mods to the belt guard but he wasn't 100%. Also is there a visible difference between a 130-140 or am I waisting brain cells thinking about it. This is the first real motorcycle I've played with but I have had and built plenty of cars and trucks so I'm not new to the whole wrenching thing. I just like to research before I spend my money. Any help is really appreciated guys. Thank you

The biggest tire that will fit in the fender is a 150 but will require mods to the pulleys and belt and belt guard. A 140 will fit without mods. The difference between a 130 and a 140 is noticable. 10 mm. Or 13/32".
The clearance of your stock belt on a 140 tire is about an 1/8". At least it is on my 98 Fatboy.. with 1 1/2" belt..

You're welcome...... You can go to a 150 if you got to a rear 1 1/8" belt and pulley. You will have to remove the swing arm to do so... Which ain't a bad job and not only that you can change your gearing a little too wake it up..

That's down the road for sure. I just bought this bike and trying to do minimal to it this year. Next winter we're going to decide if I move up and give this to the wife or I tear it apart and do a complete build and buy her a sporty.

If you pump it beyond 80hp, you might want to look into a Carlini torque arm.
