Default Rear tire

Am trying to figure if I have room to put a 140/90/16 rear tire on my 99 FLHT, there is a 130/90/16 now and I have room between the belt and tire that I can fit my index finger between and barely touch. How much wider is a 140, does it vary between makes?

Someone here will prolly know but if it is about Dunlop I would call and ask them. That way you know without a doubt. I don't know though why people feel the need to go with a bigger tire than what is supposed to go on the bike. To each their own.

my 2003 glide came with a MT90-16 and the 140 Dunlop replacement is Mu85-16. 5% less aspect ratio and 140mm wide like the 2004 and later glides. The 5% less height translates into 7mm per side or 14mm overall height difference or a little over 1/2". This is the only way to get a 140 in the 2003 and oldwer swingarm. You will also need to modify your lower pplastic belt guard or remove it as it will be pinched between your belt and tire when you back up.

I run the MU90 out back on my 2002 FLHT but did have to trim the plastic belt guard. You could go to a 150 with the narrow belt, shave a bit off the brake caliper and extend the clutch side space the same amount but that's way too much trouble for another 10mm, IMHO anyway.

+1 on this. Don't take someone word for it unless they are in the Tire department.
