Default Old screaming eagle camshaft info. SE-2

Found a N.O.S old Evo SE-2 cam kit with springs and all. Found the specs. This will be for a stock 1997 roadking fuel injected. Has slip on mufflers. Bought it on a whim.

Anyone have any experience with the old SE-2 camshaft? I was told its actually not a Bad cam.

49 intake closing, 257/265 duration, 516 lift. Going to need at least 10.8-1 in a 80" to not need a pusher vehicle below 3000 rpm, if a cam needs this much compression to work, run a 590 lift and get it over with.

Modern performance street cams are working with opposite numbers, earlier intake close, shorter duration and higher lifts which allows lower power and the bigger lift can carry horsepower into higher rpm's.

Being brutally honest, a large percent of modern cams are going to work better than that one for what engine work needs done, sorry for not being the support you may have wanted but not a fan of the SE numbers

PS: bagger cams have intake closings in the 36-42 range to build compression in the lower rpm range, a 49 intake closing will be letting it out

SE-2 is gonna be real lazy on the bottom end even in a light bike like a FXR. The party won't be starting until 3500rpm even with a bump in compression. A short duration high lift cam is a better choice especially for a heavy bike like yours.

This is very interesting as my stage2 road kind has one and I have been wondering the specs.
Like1997 bagger said I have a 98 and the stage 2 and mine is laggy down low but pulls hard up top

I'm not certain but you may want to keep the springs as the should be an up grade from stock

Unfortunately I learned the hard way not to increase spring pressure until the lift of the cam is high enough to require it, (.550") approximately. Then a suitable lifter must be matched with them.

i did some more research and found out this is an early kit. 25490-87 not a 25490-87A

the specs of the cam are different than the later "A" .516 lift cam
specs are

.505" lift
int-257 exh-265
int 27/55
exh 55/32

overlap 27+32

says its a bolt in for hyd. or solid tappet.

does this change anything?

Worse, intake valve closing went from 49 to 55 which means it is letting more air out the cylinders, need even more compression to make it work.
