I guess I have to pull the starter off the bike to replace the contacts? Might as well get the solonoid rebuild kit.

I can get a completely new starter 1.4 Kw from DK for $150. If I have to pull the starter any way, I figure just go back with all new and be done with it.
Anything negatives about going from 1.2 stock to 1.4 Kw?

No downside I've found. The bike will crank over faster & the starter drive will last longer, too.

You could put a pushbutton on your starter and bypass the relay altogether. This has the added benefit of more voltage to the starter. No wiring work required. It is kinda "hot" to get to with the pipes you have, wear gloves if you don't already.

I may try the button later but for now I need to fix the starter.

I went through relays too.
I put a push button on the starter and took the relay apart, adjusted the contacts to hit with more force as the gap was too big.
Same relay now for 6 years and haven't had to use the button once after the adjustment. But it's like insurance, just incase I need it.
