Default 1993 turn signal issues, need help

Hey all! so I have a 93 fxrs-sp....
the original turn signals have been gone for a long long time now, never had the fronts from what I remember. At one time, I installed some little bullet lights in the rear and they worked for some time. I know some lights have issues because they need some sort of resister added. Ive also heard something about needing the fronts for the rears to work but for a while I had the rears only and they worked for a few months. Now, I noticed for a few months now the rears quit working on me too. I pulled them apart and the light innards were really corroded.

So here I am, I just installed an fxrt fairing and I want to get both front and rear lights working again and I'm trying to track down why the lights are not working. I opened up the hand controls and I have power going to the hand control. Where the wires exit the hand control I get power out when I press the signal button. I traced the wires out and I have power all the way to the turn signal module and I still have power out from the thumb switch all the way to the turn signal module. From there I'm lost on what to test next. I don't know of a procedure to test the module if there is one or if I can test it coming out somehow.

Any words of wisdom? what else to test from there? how to test the module? or bypass it all together If I have to be ghetto I'm even debating just hardwiring the lights straight from the thumb switch and tap the switch to activate the switch with a press/release/press/release type of deal haha,

From what you describe I suspect the module is dead. If you want to use LED lights then you will need a 'ballast' to correct an old style of flasher unit, as LEDs take very little power compared with traditional incandescent bulbs.

I suspect your FSM will have a test procedure for the module, however if you want to use LEDs, then replace it with a single LED-friendly module, such as from Badlands. They do a wide range of suitable modules, for use with or without LEDs.

Default turn signal isses

Looks like its the module, I used a jumper to jump the plug without the module and I got power to the rear taillights. If I do go with an aftermarket module like a badlands, are they an either or kinda thing for led or not. I am running incandescent bulbs rite now. dont know if I will eventually go to led.

It's quite a while since I bought my Badlands module, so check their website. I think you will find they do 'normal' and LED versions of their flasher module. They also do an LED ballast module, if you change your mind later.
