Default Running with no oil pressure

On a road trip red oil pressure light came on right at startup. Motor might have run for a minute before shutting down. In trying to find out if it was the pressure switch or the oil pump motor was run at idle for about 30 seconds more.

Problem was key in oil pump sheared of.

Have replaced oil pump cleaned oil tank and all lines installed new cam bearings and lifters. Lifters and cam still had oil when I opened that area.

Motor seems to run OK and has good oil pressure but I am concerned about possible top end damage or damage to the bottom end.

Did you get all the bits of the cam bearing out? If there's more in there, that key is going to go again. If you got it all accounted for, I bet you're fine. Run it.

Question? How would you make sure you got all the cam bearing pieces out if you don't remove the cylinders? How would you access the case?

My first guess would be if it came out in one piece.

The cam bearing did not come apart. Just replaced them because I had the cam out. The only parts damaged were the oil pump. The lifters had some play in rollers so replaced them.

I am second owner of this bike which has close to 55000 miles on it. I put the last 5000 on it sense getting it.

At some time the first owner replaced the push rods with adjustable and I don't know what other work was done on it. I think the small piece of metal that jammed the oil pump was from that work.

I know there is no guarantee that there is not another piece floating around in the motor without a pulling it apart. Just wondering if the short time it ran without oil pressure would do damage.

If you don't hear any strange sounds with it running...it will be fine.
