Default Issues After Cam Change - Need Inputs

I was able to get the exhaust back on after the cam change. Have a couple issues. First, there is no oil pressure showing on the gauge. I shut the bike down pretty quickly once I saw it. I checked the oil level and it may be about a quart low. Would that cause no oil pressure to show? Second, the new OEM lifters are ticking pretty bad but I assume that is because the bike has not ran long enough for them to fill with oil. Does that sound about right? Thanks.

Did you have your lifters in oil? How long did you let the bike run? Are you sure the oil pump and o rings are installed correctly?
Hen I first started my bike I also had no pressure until I revved it a bit.

No I didn't put the lifters in oil. I should have but didn't think about it at the time I was doing it. I didn't remove the oil pump. I put a new O-Ring on the oil pump before putting the cam plate back in. I know it didn't fall out. I've let it run for about a minute at the most. I didn't want to take the chance if I ran it to long. I'm going to go get a quart of oil tonight to top off the tank.

Did you align the oil pump? Failure to properly align the pump can cause low/no pressure.

I think it can also damage the oil pump too.

Did you read your HD Service Manual?? Think about this: If your bike was 1 qt low before you did your work, did you have no oil pressure? 1 qt low isn't your problem.

pull the plugs and turn it over. Did you install new lifters? New lifters have light machine oil in them and should be alright. Hope you used engine assy lube. The oring would be my first thought. It would have to be really low I think not to have any oil pressure.

How long did you crank it over for? Pull the plugs and crank it for 30 -60 seconds. If no oil pressure after that you screwed up a o ring or the pump. The pump sections will go back together in the wrong positions and not produce pressure.

Don't run it anymore, until you have the oil pressure fixed. O ring, oil pump broke, or shim in wrong place. With no reading on oil gauge and lifters not pumping up, you do have a problem. It isn't from low oil level. Pressure relief could be stuck open. Something is definitely wrong. Get a service manual if you don't already have one.

Could have missed something during re-installation of parts...

But, when I did my cam support plate swap, I also had a lot of lifter noise. I did pump the lifters manually to fill with oil during installation, so I knew it wasn't that. I was pretty confident that I did the installation completely correct. I ran the bike around the block, and half way through the ride, one lifter collapsed. I limped home, hoping I'd make it, then arrived and shut it down and thought for a few moments. I decided to crank it up one more time, and the lifter made a little noise at first then quietened down. Guess there was an air pocket in the oil passege(s). All was fine after that.

Can't suggest you do the same though, if you ask my wife, she'll tell you I am not responsible for anything...
