Batwing Fairings
Thanks.
Frank
Owned my 1990 bike from new, when H-D sold a batwing kit for the FLHS. It was so darned expensive that I didn't buy one! It was the glass-fibre shovel batwing, (not the moulded plastic one on the other Touring models at that time) with suitable mounting brackets and came colour-matched.
Instead I bought a secondhand late shovel batwing, made my own mounting brackets and painted it birch white. That was a couple of years after I bought the bike. I was lucky in that mine was in excellent condition. There are aftermarket batwings available nowadays, for Road Kings etc, which can probably be adapted.
IMHO any glass-fibre batwing will do, but you are right about the hardware. I got that with mine, but it looked like too much effort to adapt it to fit, which is why I made a new set. Having a brother with sheet-metal expertise and a workshop made the job a lot easier!
Most of the aftermarket batwings are made for a radio, and will not clear the guages.
Mine has an outer fairing from a "05 FLHTC and what looks like the original windshield brackets and some spacers. I'll go outside and take some pics in a minute.
