With a bike that age and assuming the PO has never read HDF and got excited about all the upgrades we do, your bike may still have the original cleve block swingarm bushings. They are another candidate for problems, as they are of composite construction that can fail. If you dismantle the rear end I recommend you replace all three engine mounts and change the swingarm bushings to metal ones, there are several aftermarket products available.

thanks. this was kind of my plan before i posted this topic i did a little quick research on where the rear motor mount was and see it was attached to the swing arm, and said whelp since im there i might as well replace them also, wasn't aware they had metal swing arm bushings, that's good to know thanks. and if im going to replace 1 motor moutn might as well replace them both, plus give me an excuse to get away from the wife to the man cave over the winter

Replace the front mount as well, in fact that is more likely to fail than the rear ones, under normal conditions. Do get a copy of the factory service manual, if you don't have one. This is not a job to tackle blind! The weight of the engine/trans and rear wheel hang on those three mounts, probably over half the total weight of the bike. It's straight-forward to do, while taking suitable precautions.
