Default Clutch adjuster screw stripped?

A couple nights ago, I noticed my transmission seemed really stiff. Like I had to almost stomp on the shifter to get it to change gears.

Thought it could be the clutch, so I adjusted it today. After setting the adjuster screw and tightening the jamnut inside the primary, it reached a point where the jamnut just kept spinning instead of tightening further. It's against the release plate, but it could be tighter I'm sure.

Would this explain the hard shifting? And how much of an ordeal is replacing the adjuster screw (I'm assuming it's got a stripped thread since the nut is just spinning)?

Bike is definitely out of gear when I pull the clutch in, by the way.

Also, I should mention the bike has had an occasional issue with slipping between gears when I shift. Like in-between 3/4 or 4/5 sometimes it acts like it's in neutral.

No idea if that's related.

Both the adjuster screw, and the plate it threads into can be replaced without pulling the clutch. Remove the large snap ring, and the adjuster and plate come right out.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thanks!

Gonna order parts for this today.

Is it just as simple as replacing the end push rod (5) and locknut (1)?

Or is there anything else I should replace with new parts as long as I'm doing it?

First off the best thing to do is take it apart so that you know what you need but if you are gonna guess then I would add #13 to that list of parts to order.

Yeah, that makes sense.

The issue I'm having is that the locknut (1) is just spinning on the adjuster screw (5) when it gets to a certain point, like one of the threads is stripped.

In theory, that's all I'd think I would need to replace. But I've had many wrong theories before.

#1, #5, #13 for sure.

Also, take a magnetic probe and pull #4 out of the transmission. Look for evidence that it's gotten hot on the ends (bluing). If it has, then you should go ahead and open the other side of the trans and replace the rest of the system (#2, #7x2, #6, #3).

Actually, as long as your in there, even if the rod looks good, you should take the other side apart and look at #6.

Theories are nice but rarely solve problems.
Like I said before the best thing to do is take it apart and see what you need.

If 5 is damaged then the possibility exists that you could damage 13 (if it's not already damaged) when you remove 5.

Yeah, I'll get in there on both sides and see what exactly I'm dealing with. No sense in not replacing everything that needs to be replaced.

I've looked through my service manual and I'm not finding anything about how to disassemble or assemble the pushrod components. Does everything just slide in and out, or is there more to it?
