Default Sticking Rear Brake Solved

I'm posting this for my fellow evo riders in hopes it might save some aggravation. So: My rear brake started to stick closed and I searched online and just about all the threads said to rebuild the rear caliper. I did that and it still stuck. I keep messing with the caliper and nothing works. My last try resulted in no hydraulic pressure at all. I replace the master cylinder and everything is fine. If this happens to you, be sure and also check the master cylinder. When I looked at the rear piston it didn't look that bad, so I should have taken the hint. I think I bought 4 bottles of DOT 5 at $10 a pop before my fix. I hope I get to ride a little bit before the snow flies.

You could have rebuilt your master cylinder for way less than it cost you to replace it.

A lot of the comments I read said to just replace it. I was tired of rebuilding anything. $55 was worth it to me.

I wonder if the reason it was locking up was due to one of those tiny holes in the MC being plugged up. I know there's one in the front MC and there should be one in the rear too.

My dad's Dyna project did the same. Some genius topped the MC off with Dot 4 and over time it curdled. We stripped the whole system apart, including taking the pistons out of the calipers and pulling the plunger out of the MC, and cleaned everything including that little breather hole in the MC. Then put it all back together with fresh Dot 5 and it works like new.
