Default 1987 fxrc

Hi, I'm somewhat new to the Forum. I have been riding a harley for almost 10 years. started with a v-rod, then a softail slim, then a road glide. I sold the road glide for an anniversary model impatiently waiting for. Always wanted an fxr. So this week I bought an '87 blue frame. It had bags on it which I removed. Unbeknownst to me, the rear fender had some slight damage. Does anyone have an FXRC blue frame rear fender in good to excellent condition. Im really **** with my toys. So its probably stupid I bought something 30 years old. I realize the fender will have some sort of blemish especially where the struts and rear seat were. Nonetheless, i thought this may be a good place to ask

Have you thought about getting the paint code and having a painter fix the fender you have?

I have. However it is 2 main colors and 2 pinstripes of entirely different colors. In my experience it’s much cheaper to buy the fender if someone has one available as opposed to painting.

Hi Mike, those bikes are as rare as any rare thing, in fact there were only 1200 of them built. I've never seen one. The prospect of finding the correct fender is close to zero IMHO. You are likely to have a very long wait, so I suggest you take up Texas's suggestion. True it won't be cheap to repaint it, but I suggest that is your only viable solution.

Mike I cannot help you with the fender, but I do have a copy of this exact same bike you are describing. What makes them special is a couple of things HDMC only did once with the FXRC. It is the only year that HD painted the frame the same color as the tank. The only year that they placed the American Flag on the XXXX of 6500. I assume your might be missing? It should be on the front fork brace to identify it production number. The seat if stock with be black with a charcoal center, with matching back rest. The bags if original and in good shape I would gladly tank off your hands. It is one of those bikes that will be more desirable in stock un-modified condition. Here are some pics of mine:

Thank you guys for the posts. I will most likely have to buy another fender and paint it. As for the bags, I apologize but I like them, and I like having the option to put them on if need be. My bike is number 175/750. Unfortunately one of the things the previous owner did, was remove the mid controls and put on black forwards. I’m not a fan and now I’m trying to buy a decent set of mids that aren’t a ton of money. My seat does look as you describe except for the backrest. I’m only going to do slight and tasteful modifications

Interesting that we have three different numbers for how many of them were built, but it wasn't many! Also a one year only version AFAIK.

I didn’t know that they had a Canadian version til i read this forum. I guess if you combine the two numbers you’d be at 1400 total.
But i heard they stopped production a few units before 750 in the us

Yea my bad it was 750 US and 650 Canadian. Mike your's so far is the earliest of the 750 I have came across. My bike is doing viewing duty at the inside of my bar in Sandy, Oregon. But if my old brain serve me correctly mine is 697/750.

Do you have the appropriate Parts Manual?Get the part number and ask a dealer to do a search. You never know what you might turn up.
