Converting to LEDS
I’m in the process of changing to leds. I found some good quality that will have both turn and run operating correctly.(cheap ones will not work on the run lights) l am having trouble trying to fit one in the tail light. The bulb hits at the top of the socket before it reaches the slot for the pins. The original bulb barely goes in far enough to lock. Anyone have a fix or a line on a bulb to fit. I know a tail light is available with a panel of les but they are a little speedy. My ride is a 1989 FLTC.
I used the badlands module ,red lenses, with the round LED s to make the rear turn signals double as brake lights as Ranger sugested ,huge difference .Also bought Amazon Led head and spots ,worked well IMO, it also raised the voltage and runs better
There is a fundamental problem with LED 'bulbs', especially those intended to replace conventional incandescent ones - they are very bulky. I have a similar problem, as I would like to replace the H3 bulbs in my H-D oval fogs with LEDs, but haven't found any yet that will fit.
I didn't even try with my 1990 Glide and bought an aftermarket replacement for the stock lens. Works a treat! I also bought LED lenses for the four direction indicators, not bulbs. It makes every sense to reduce outgoings when working on our old bikes, but a new replacement bike costs $26k and many new parts for our older bikes are in line with that, not the pocket money an old bike can actually cost!

Does the '89 have the same factory module as my '90, or does it have an automotive style blinker?
When I did my swap last year, I put in Sylvania LED bulbs and swapped the factory module for the Badlands. Put in TruckLite LED's for the headlight and running lights the year before.
Like '86 said, much less pull on the charging system. With the old setup, the voltmeter would swing wildly when the turn signals are on. Now it doesn't budge. Since the charging systems on these old things is something of a weak link, I figure anything you can do to ease it's burden can't but help.
LED's come to full brightness about 0.2s faster than incandescents. Doesn't sound like much until you realize that translates into about 20 feet at highway speed. You never know when those 20 feet will matter.
My 89 has the module flt signals. I previously converted the rear to double filament ( front units from Dennis Kirk about $20 ) with red lenses. Mine worked without resistors. Only issue is fitting the tail light bulb. I also replaced the lights on the side of the tour pack with led strips behind the lenses
