Default tripmeter

is there anyway to get a tripmeter fixed without swapping gauge and "altering" mileage?

Year and model of your bike?
What exactly is wrong with your trip meter?

If it has a digital gauge then the possibility exists that you just need to clean the contacts on the tranny.

The evo motorcycle was built for numerous years.
Some bikes have fairing gauges while some have tank mounted gauges and so on.
There are also bikes with electronic speedometers and some that are analog.
Some speedometers have odometer(records miles on bike) screens that are LCD while some odometers are composed of geared wheels.
So exactly what year, make, model and type of speedometer do you have?
Is it a factory speedometer?
What exactly is your specific problem?

It seems like it has been rather difficult to get information so folks can better understand the actual problem.
It is now clearer that you have a 1989 fxstc with a stock gauge.
The stock gauge is a mechanical speedometer with a needle, one window for miles ridden and another window for trip meter.
The speedometer needle functions correctly for MPH and the odometer records correctly miles ridden.
So we can now rule-out the adapter at the wheel & can rule-out the cable.
The speedometer is functioning for speed and distance.
The second window location for the TRIP meter does not reset and it does not go up in miles.
So problem is isolated to actual speedometer area.
The next step would be to figure-out if the problem is the reset stick or is an internal gear stripped.
Guessing that trip meter is stuck on 999.9 ? is this correct?
Does the speedometer have the reset stick/**** on the right side?

On my 1995 flstc the trip meter lever snapped off and of course the set-screw has welded itself in there. I can reset it easily but of course the ****/lever will rattle off the base on this rigid mounted engine. You can keep one in the saddle bags of it is really that important to you.
