Default 98' Ultra Classic Grip Install Help

I am wanting to install some new grips on my 98' Ultra Classic.
Questions are how hard is it to install the throttle side & get the cables to go back on correctly & adjust? Also, do you really have to use glue on the clutch side like on a dirt bike? Seems like the controls have a flange that the grip fits into.

I have only replaced dirt bike grips and I don't want to f-this up.

Thanks all !

You have quite enough experience, so just do it! If you go to the H-D website and the Shop tab, you can check out grips that are available, but also download the instructions for installing them. That should help answer your queries. I doubt if you will find much difference with changing them on a dirt bike. It's a bit of a fiddle dealing with the cables, but you already know that!

3M makes a thin 2 sided tape. Wrap the bar with what you need and then wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to make it gooey then slip it up and let set for a day. A little hard to get it off the next time but won't leave you one handed as well....

Ah - I've just discovered "3M Double-Sided Tissue Tape". Is that the stuff? Great tip by the way, many thanks. Can use something like this on Mrs B's Sporty clutch grip. I have a neat RAM 'RAP-B-231' adapter for our satnav, but it requires removing the grip and may also benefit from some of that tape.

I plan on sliding it onto the handlebar, to take a gps. We currently use the standard RAM U-bolt mounting that came with it, the ugly thing on the left below:

Indeed! We have a European bike trip later this summer, which I'm doing some preliminary planning for, visiting Belgium, France and Germany. Paper maps are OK for general route planning, but having instructions on the handlebar is a lot easier. At least the gps always knows where we are, even if we don't!

If the grips are Harley brand grips with the flange then glue should not be required.
Difficulty on adjusting cables depends on your knowledge but generally not a big deal.
You must have the correct torx bit for the screws...using the wrong size will cause you problems.
Again, you must have the correct size torx bits.
Do NOT over tighten those bolts or they will strip easily.
Cover front fender with thick folded towel and gas tank must be covered too, so WHEN you drop something there will be no damage.
Make sure to not damage the rubber tip on brake light switch that is hidden by brake lever..the manual will call for use of cardboard or similar to keep lever in engaged/used/pulled position.
If you look from the bottom up at brake lever with small flashlight then you can see the little rubber switch you are trying not to damage.
The rubber boots on cables will probably fall apart when you try to roll them down..might want to order them now or just get some before you start so you do not repeat project.
The cable nuts will probably look a bit rusted...clean them...a little automatic transmission fluid on a rag helps to clean them and the threads.
Do not push the throttle side grip totally towards center of bike during assembly or the throttle will not return due to friction of inside grip end with end of bar.
Use some kind of threadlocker on screws.
