Default muffler clamps

Hi guys, I've got a question regarding muffler clamping .I just installed new true duals on my 86 Flt .Has anyone improved the clamps to get a tight fit? Maybe cut the flares off with different clamp,The old style clamps are expensive and don't work well to begin with. Thanks

They are a PITA. Cutting the flanges from the head pipes will allow you to put on almost any muffler through something like 2007. You'll be happy you did. I believe Dennis Kirk or J&P has some copper gaskets that I used to use on one of my bikes.

So that means I cannot reuse my drag mufflers?

So where did you find a true dual kit for the V-clamp style muffler connection? I thought Fulsac discontinued them years ago?

Harley updated the original clamps circa 2005 so they are no longer a simple V-clamp, but have an extension of about 3/4" toward the rear (muffler end) which work very well and eliminated cracking of the pipe/muffler. It's SO nice to not have to wrestle with slip fit exhaust every time you change a tire...

Ok, I found some on Drag Specialties.
If you can send them back, do so. Order some for a post 95 bike. They will fit perfectly.
Or, if you can cut the flare off and still have enough travel on the rear muffler slide to get 1 1/2" contact with your mufflers/pipes, that'll work. Use new band (flat) clamps.

Point being - I know 2 people who've been killed from a muffler falling loose from the pipe, gouging into the pavement and causing them to wreck.

I bought my 1990 Glide new and it came with the original style of those clamps. The Drag Specialties ones are the Mark 2 'improved' version. Neither of them are much use! Use an exhaust sealant to make them gas tight.
