I just got a set of Wild Pig mufflers in the mail. All seems fine, except I cant seem to get the oem muffler clamp over the end of the muffler. I assumed I used the stock clamps, since the box didnt have any new ones in it...did I do something wrong?
You did buy new clamps right? Using the old ones is not worth the trouble and usually you will break one or both when you tighten them up.
I put Joker Machines on my Ultra and even with new clamps they were a bit of a challenge to get on the slip-ons. Got a mallet and just gently tapped them on and then it was not a problem.
Don't bother using the old clamps....get some new ones....they are only around 7 bucks....
Take all of the hardware off the clamp. Spread it out enough to get it over the pipe. If it won't go on by hand hold the pipe by the muffler end and gently tap it straight down on a hard surface until it is flush with the end.
Oh and unless they are damaged there is no need to replace the clamps. I have used the same set over and over with no problems. Have been reusing them for years. And I asked Jamie at Fuelmoto about reusing them and he said they do it all the time.
I've always used the old ones, but I also change the exhaust soon after bringing the bike home so my clamps are like new anyway. You may just need to spread them a little and tap them on with a rubber or plastic mallet.
I actually think I am going to have to buy new clamps. I was able to get the old clamps over the end of the muffler, by using a hammer, but it bent the muffler inwards enough that it would not fit on the head pipe. I think the heat has caused some pretty major damage on the stock clamp...they just dont want to spead out enough to fit over.
ONLY BUY T-BOLT CLAMPS....aircraft quality...superior uniform clamping, use after use....get em at a good hardware store or your local hydralic hose company
I may have to try this. I just pulled my muffs off, and when putting them on noticed the same thing as the OP. Have to try moving the muffs closer and using the t-bolt clamps.
