Default Progress 422 Shock question.

I looked at the Progressive 422's under my Heritage Classic and I noticed that on the back end of one of the shocks the black housing (yellow circles) seems to be protruding out farther than the other one. I'm assuming that is caused by an uneven adjustment of the shocks when I had them installed. I've never had any practical experience with this type of shocks so if that can be adjusted out would I make the adjustment with the preload in the red square or with the ride height in the blue square????

Thanks in advance.

You would want the thread count in the red and blue squares to be equal on both shocks...

Yeah progressive told me the same thing.
They told me that it was ok if the barrels were unequal as long as the threads matched on the adjustments.

I wore out 3 bushings taking their advice.

Now I make sure the barrel lengths are exactly the same so that I know the pressure on each is equal.

I've worn out one bushing on the long barrel shock. I can't believe those dick-holes just changed the bushing and threw the shock back in the same way it was! The new bushing has been in quite a while. The first one only lasted two weeks.

Here are actual pictures from under the bike. Threads are the same but one barrel is obviously longer.

So what should I do from here? Adjust the preload until the barrels are equal
?

To do it right, I would take both shock out and line them up so the mount centers are identical to each other.

I had a set of 422's. They were so rigid causing me to feel every nook and cranny in the road. I had them on the softest setting possible. So I sent them back and they said they couldn't find anything wrong.. What a waste of time and money... And yea their bushing sleeves suck.. They're like paper thin.... Did you know that those progressives are actually Burley shocks.... Yea they suck and I wouldn't recommend them and their service to anyone.... I actually went back to OEM... Best move i've ever made for shocks....

we use round shafts along a board and measure the lengths exact -

you may or not have noticed a waggle turning one way verses the other

your welcome hotrod LOL. I picked up a set of progressives for my '15 slim. they're not the heavy duty ones so I hope they ride ok. I'm changing tire size to a slightly taller tire so I want to lower the back 3/4" or so.
