I like my 422s on my 1992 FLSTC. They were very firm at first, but the broke in really nicely.
However, I do not have much basis for comparison. I changed out OEM that had been lowered.
The combination of putting it back to factory height and new shocks vastly improved the ride and handling. I can take corner much faster without scraping boards. And the ride feels much more solid. But not cushy for sure.
It really depends on how heavy you are... With my wife on the back it was a different story, they were okay. I'm only 160 lbs.. not heavy enough to load them....

To do it right, I would take both shock out and line them up so the mount centers are identical to each other.
I had a set of 422's. They were so rigid causing me to feel every nook and cranny in the road. I had them on the softest setting possible. So I sent them back and they said they couldn't find anything wrong.. What a waste of time and money... And yea their bushing sleeves suck.. They're like paper thin.... Did you know that those progressives are actually Burley shocks.... Yea they suck and I wouldn't recommend them and their service to anyone.... I actually went back to OEM... Best move i've ever made for shocks....
Really? Can you tell the difference after you changed out the old stock shocks with the new stock shocks? My Heritage has about 20k on it and the wife is complaining about the bumps. I was thinking about the 422 RAP, but with the sort of Quality Control I saw in the pictures I'm not so sure.
How do you know the Progressives are actually Burley?
