i bought a 99 FXR3 some years ago. Theres nothing original on this bike, that may be the reason for all the headache. I have a S&S 113, Baker 6 spd transmission, and Rivero Primo belt drive to name a few. The problem is the belt drive. Ive popped about 3 belts in total, and Im done with this primary. I didnt do this mod to the bike, I bought it with it. So now Im looking for suggestions to convert it back to a chain drive. What would be the best primary drive for performance and budget? Thanks for all your help.
Use stock inner and outer primary I believe you can use bagger comp sprocket clutch basket . You will need a fxr inner if you are running mids. Should be an easy swap . Usually the belts break because of mis alignment. I have a stock primary on mine with a Rivera pro clutch behind my 113 no problems
Stock components should bolt right up I would imagine. I don't know if a dry clutch like you have can be ran wet though so it might get costly factoring $500 for a new clutch. But I agree, belts break from misalignment or tension not "too much power" as some guys like to brag about. So you may want to check that or if you want to close it up be sure to check chain alignment once installed or you will have even bigger problems.
With as many problems the compensators are giving I would just leave that off, as you don't have to run one.
(If you go back to stock)

Why are the belts breaking?
That might be your most EZ answer to your problems.
The belt drives weigh in at about 22 lbs and the original chain drive stuff tips the scale at about 44 lbs.
I always try to add lightness.

The model compensator that would be used in this setup has no durability problems, the comps that are troublesome are the new design units that came out in 06/07 model years.

I know I am not alone-
I have gone through 3 compensators in 5 years.
That is one of the major reasons I am switching to BDL
(Plus I wanted to dump the 22 lbs of slinging weight)
