Default Transmission Problems?

Hello, I have a problem and decided to ask for some help. I have a 1988 Electra Glide Classic. Yesterday I started it, let it warm up, and put it in 1st. It was normal. I drove down the road, and a couple blocks, it started jerking. I tried it in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and all the same. also when shifting and letting out the clutch, it grinds. I parked it and walked and got my truck and brought it home. Before tearing into it, I want to see if anyone can direct me in the right direction, as far as, what it may be. Thank you

In my case it was the transmission mainshaft bearing.

You need to be able to tell the difference between a missing cylinder and a trans problem.
If you have no clue. get REAL help or you might spend a lot of money on nothing that will fix it.
You might just need a spark plug, coil, wire etc

It definitely is a trans problem. totally different symptoms than a spark plug miss. It is the main shaft. I went into it today. I have enough Harley experience, (45 yrs) to do my own work. Thanks for your advice.
