Default 96 Electroglide carb'ed Tank

Converted my 96 Electroglide Classic from FI to carb. Having an issue with the fuel tank and want to find a tank originally manufactured for carb. What year range will fit?? I have seen some tanks with Dyna type level gauge knock out. (vs the large oblong opening for FI) What level gauge kit to match up to fairing fuel level gauge?? Help appreciated!!!

I suspect you will find that an earlier tank and will not work correctly with your current gauge. Certainly that is my experience, trying to go the other way (twincam EFI tank and level float, with old fuel gauge).

The issue I had with the '96 EFI tank was the FI fuel fittings inside the tank that stood up about 1" (2.54 cm) I had to cut the (1) down for the pettcock and I punctured the tank in the process. I JB Welded it and it only lasted 16 months.

If I got a twin cam tank are the fittings close to flush with the bottom?
Same thread & size for the Pingel petcock??
Any particular TC year or will all cross fit?
If I can reuse the float i.e. match the '96 EFI tank oval float pattern that would also be great.

Trying to determine what I can before ordering mistakes

TIA!!!!

PS. I cut the fitting down inside the tank so I didn't cut down on my "miles per tank"

Will you please state the exact problem?
I have a 2015 SG on my 1994 RK.
Most any should fit with little problems
BUT, be more specific as you should not have to change the tank.
And welcome back to the carb world.

I ripped a gash in the tank by mistake with a 2" cutting wheel cutting off the FI fitting extensions inside the tank. Gash was 2" long x 1/8" wide on the inside wall. Plugged it with JB Weld and after 16 months the patch failed/separated. Looking for options but will not repatch with epoxy. The 96 EFI tank fittings inside the tank reduce the "miles per tank" so either cut them down or swap the tank to a carb tank but this creates a fuel gauge interface and possible fitment issue. That's what I'm trying to find out. What tank years interchange with 96 FLH Classic? If I use a FLH /FLT carb tank what fuel float gauge connects to the dash gauge?? Last, was told last year by indy-mech that later model EFI tank fittings come right out and therefore flush inside. I don't know if this is fact and/or what years. I did have a '98 FXD carb so familiar with level gauge below the fill cap. If a '98 FXD carb tank will work I'm good with that if it will straddle the FLH frame and bolt up. Also told HD made a number of changes after '96 i.e. seats etc so trying to get it right the first time.

TIA
