Theres plenty used and NOS Screaming Eagle modules on eBay, saw a NOS for $75
I had a regulator overcharge once, I caught it right away, my (Sony)radio cut off (from over voltage), which made me look at the volt gauge, which was pegged,
so I unplugged the regulator from the stator, turned off the lights (jumper is removed from breakers) and rode home on battery power, no other damage done.
@98hotrodfatboy - Thanks for the reply. The dealer did not replace coil. I believe I have dual fire coil (two connections on back of coil).
Do you believe upgrading to a single fire ignition system is worth the extra bucks? The extra time to install appears minimal.
I have the ultima ignition that 98hotrodfatboy listed in 2 bikes and love it. Imho i would just order the ignition module which is about $120 and reuse your coil.
The coil that comes with that kit isnt all that good and i have never really seen the advantage to running single fire anyway.

Yes you do have single fire. I don't believe upgrading will make that much of a difference.... However the nice thing is that you have a brand new ignition for your old ride... Very important...
I have never seen or felt a difference from single to dual... I've run stock, SE and Dynatek. The best feature is the rev limiter, then of course what ignition curve is most appropriate for your build... I'm actually thinking of putting a switch to ground for the voes I took out. Maybe cruising mileage would go up...
Are you absolutely sure that you have a single fire coil 'cause it sounds like you have a dual fire to me.
My dual fire coils (OEM on my softails) have 2 posts and my sing fire coil (bought for my S&S ignition) has 3 posts.
