Here is the text from the actual email I got from Maryland Dept of Motor Vehicles:

Dear Historic Vehicle Owner,

As the owner of a historic vehicle, we want to make you aware of legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly that goes into effect on Saturday, October 1, 2016. It is important to know that this legislation will impact how historic vehicles may be operated.

Effective October 1, 2016, a Maryland registered historic vehicle may no longer be used for transportation to and from employment, school, or for commercial purposes.

In addition, historic vehicles with a model year of 1986 or newer may be subject to safety equipment repair orders issued at roadside by law enforcement.

Thank you for your compliance with this new Maryland law.

Like I said above, there's no advantage in cost in NY for "historic" or "antique" status and strict limitations on use. I do have trouble thinking of my Evo as a "classic" as it's still my only bike and a daily driver. Calling it a "classic" kinda makes me imagine using a '57 Thunderbird to commute to work.

I don't see a problem for me with that..I wouldn't dream of Commuting anyway... on a Harley I can prove it costs more than a Cheap Chevy!!!
But, I don't commute anymore anyway... and like I said, everyplace I go... I am looking to set up a "Show"... it is my Business....
Just Lucky I guess.....and Gladder [is that a word??] all the time I don't live in CommieForn I A
But... If you could choose where you were born... my folks would be Pineapple Farmers in Hawaii... Not Dirt Farmers in Michigan!!!!

wisconsin has "collector" plates. the vehicle has to be over 20 years old. it can be a car, truck, rv, motorcycle or a moped. you pay about $80 for a motorcycle and it lasts forever. the only restriction is, you can't operate it in january which isn't a problem in the cold wisconsin winter.

In Florida the cutoff is 30 years. I have an antique tag on my '86 Evo. It costs less to renew than a regular tag. I think there is a mileage limitation too but I'm sure I will be well under that. I just take it uptown for a short putt about once a week or so. I still love that motorcycle.

It was easier to register my shovel Historic because no inspection is required. I've had my Evo since new, and we don't have any inspections ever, unless there's a title change, so no real incentive for me to get the Historic tag.
I had no idea my Evo was considered a "classic" motorcycle until a car pulled out in front of me and I had to deal with the value with an insurance company. It was then I found out that it was considered a "classic". If it hadn't been, my reimbursement might've been a lot smaller.
