I am new to FXR's and I have an appointment to see this bike tomorrow (see CL link below). This is a one owner bike and from what I can tell it looks original (except for the pipes). Any feedback on originality? I have offered $9,000, $9,500, and $10,000 but they have countered with $10,500 being the bottom dollar price. I know these bikes are becoming more rare, but am I grossly over-paying at $10,500?
Nice bike, and it looks almost entirely original. Crazy low miles.
$10,500 is certainly a premium price. That's California money, although from what I understand, even in CA it's the earlier model FXR's that are hot, not the later ones like this. Doesn't seem like a Wisconsin price, particularly a September Wisconsin price. Personally, I would have thought something like $7,500 or $8k for that bike.
But what the hell. If you've got to have it and the money won't kill you, you'll wait a long time before another one this clean comes along.
Or maybe you wait him out and see if he softens up over the winter. Who knows?
The fxr came out in the early 80’s and was dropped from the line up in 94. It came back in 99 as the first cvo. I believe they sold for 20 k. They get good money for those first cvo’s. I hear you, a lot of coin for an old bike but the fxr is a very sought after and great bike . Buy it you won’t regret it!
I just picked up a 91 for $3,200 (couple weeks ago) all original except for a bassani exhaust and set of bars. It's nothing like the one in the ad and it needs work but it runs like a top. Usually people buy these to work on them, that one is in such great condition I dunno if I'd touch it.
As for the price, it seems a bit steep since the 99's aren't exactly the years people are on the hunt for. I see huge demand for 89-93 and they are getting pricey. If you're planning a build I'd let this one go, it's just to pristine.
I saw a beautiful 93 with an S&S build, everything custom putting out well over 100 hp. Guy was asking $23k
Thanks guys, you have given me more to think about....
Buyers market is what I think. If you like the bike that much, and you have the coin, buy it. If you think it's overpriced, and they need to drop the price, make em sit on it for a while. Philips Wi ain't exactly on the well traveled path, so I'm thinking the market for an older CVO FXR might not be that great.
Lastly if it sells, well then it just wasn't meant to be.
Good luck
I bought mine going on 2 years ago for 4K. All original except for slip on mufflers but it came with the stock ones. It ran great but had a lot of gear whine. I did a cam , lifters and steel breather. No more gear whine. I am the third owner.
