I played with a 5 speed kicker many years ago. I learned to hate it. I didn't run it long.

The ignition I used was a Crane in the cone. What a FKN POS. Crane knew they shut down when hot which I didn't find cute since I live in Arizona. You'll need a good ignition that has a kick option.

The York kick kit is junk. The Billet Bilt is built like a tank. I have no experience with anything else.

I have a box of parts with zero sentimental value.

Just curious where did you get the frame ? All the ones here are 200 series rear I want one with a normal 130 rear on it.

Not to sound ignorant but what happens to the clutch cable and throw out bearing if you use the custom chrome kit?

Paughco. Incidentally I have that frame for sale right now in the misc. parts section. It comes titled already if you buy mine.

Plus good quality and reliability!

I bought a new FX1200 shovel with kick-start only (I was young!) and the bushings for the kick-starter came adrift after a few years, so even the H-D kickers had problems.

That's not my experience - with a new kicker-only Harley! The tank soon acquired a dent from a clenched fist.....

If you intend to ditch the starter, I'd recommend not doing so until after you've got your new ignition dialed in. Way, way easier to verify that the bike will run if you can test the ignition using the starter.
Wise words indeed!
