Need Help? Kick start and Evolution
Can some one tell me what I have to do to make an Evolution kick start? Please don’t discourage me as I Have made up my mind that I’m going to make it work. I just need some guidance. Do I have to change the ignition ? Do I completely lose the starter? Etc etc. I hope I posted this in the correct place

Depends on if you want it for looks or you plan to do some serious kicking...I assume you have a 5 speed?
If you plan to use it a lot...plan on buying the Baker unit...virtually all the other 5 speed kickers are junk.
You need to have an ignition that can be programmed for 0 dead revs...if you are really hardcore, you can convert it to points.

If you plan to use it a lot...plan on buying the Baker unit...virtually all the other 5 speed kickers are junk.

programmable ignition ? That way I can set it to 0! Yes I have a five speed! Funny story I have a set of points that I took out of an evo so 👍🏻 But I’m not a big points fan. I think programmable ignition will be the way to go. So with all that being said change ignition install baker kicker in current 5 speed and then I get to kick until my leg falls off ?!

All very accurate, and sound advice...I would search out a 1985 FXWG, or maybe one of the FX's also [Not FXR] as they had an EVO engine in a 4-speed chassis... with resident Kick Start!!!! Bakers stuff has No Equal also... so Kicking a 5-speed is entirely doable... just add $$$
i read that the stock ignition doesn’t fire until so many seconds or so many revolutions so I’m assuming I need a

If you intend to ditch the starter, I'd recommend not doing so until after you've got your new ignition dialed in. Way, way easier to verify that the bike will run if you can test the ignition using the starter.

That's pretty much all there is to it, although once you've got it dialed in, you shouldn't need more than a few kicks.
If you intend to ditch the starter, I'd recommend not doing so until after you've got your new ignition dialed in. Way, way easier to verify that the bike will run if you can test the ignition using the starter.

I had a kickstart kit mated to a five speed for years. The bike was kick only and it held up pretty well. My exhaust pipe options were limited.
