I've used that type of tool in the past, but found the Jims type of pushrod cover clip remover and installer was better.
HD #96086-09, Jims #917, V-Twin 16-1024 are all the same.

Interesting never seen that one, haven't popped a tube on a twinkie or my M8 as have to look into that one when I do.

Well, I went back to the .0295 jet and tried it out. It definitely woke it up some more. The one step smaller jet (.0280) was just the tiniest bit anemic when passing from 60 mph or 65 mph...it did it a lot better than the CV carb and stock cam, but wasn't what I was expecting. Now that there's about 150 miles on this carb and cam, it's 'broke in' some and settled and with the bigger jet back in it, it passed a good deal better from those speeds (and below). The only thing I don't like about this richer jet is the small puff of smoke I get firing the bike up - hot or cold. Once it's running I don't see any smoke but can definitely smell it burning richer when at a stop light or sign. I'll check the gas mileage with this jet and see how it does. I'm also still getting the surging, but maybe I described it wrong and it's not 'surging', maybe it's more like a tiny (really tiny!) hesitation once in a while, like every few seconds or a little more, mostly it's random, no pattern (it's the same now with this richer jet as what I was describing with the .028 jet, exactly the same). It doesn't make the head or body move back or forward, but it can just barely be felt.

Also, just an fyi, I hooked up my timing light/tach and I was idling at 1320 rpm's. When I set the idle to 1000, it almost sounds too slow, heh. That's why I was saying it'll take me a little bit to get used to the sound this cam gives the bike now. It *did* sound a lot better out on the highway at 70 and 75, like a good ol' Harley should. Now I need to get a new rear motor mount to tame the damned vibration at that speed and higher...it vibrates faster than a bee in a can or my girlfriends vibrator! A super fast zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...had me worried the motor was gonna blow up if I went better than 80, lol. I replaced the front mount a couple of months ago and that helped some, but I'm sure a new rear mount will do the trick.

With the 295 in there how many turns out are you on your idle mixture screw and also on your accelerator pump. 900 to 9:50 is the best idle speed because once a motor gets real hot it will probably idle a little higher I wouldn't idle it higher than that because it does mess with your mixtures at that time you're creating more Venturi action because you have the throttle plate open more and it's hard to tune it properly when you have a set like that... 1 1/2 turns on the idle mixture should get you very close and two full turns on the accelerator pump.... And remember you don't have a high-end cam so 7075 might not feel like what you wanted to that cam is more getting you there...

I'll check, but I'm pretty sure that's about all the turns out it's at (idle mixture). I'll check tomorrow to make sure, I'll also idle it down a c-hair more.

I should have mentioned that the stock cam made it vibrate almost the same at those speeds, that's why I'm thinking it really needs a new rear mount/isolator also. The front one was the original from '98 and had worn down so badly that it literally was doing nothing for absorbing vibrations of the motor. The new mount/isolator made a *huge* difference, so I'm sure the rear is just as badly worn - the rear has a superseded number for a newer, better part.

Happy Thanksgiving peeps!
Good morning tar snake!
Question... Can vibration also be a result of improper timing? There are normal vibrations. Than those that are caused from other forces, such as outer and inner motor or even chassy related like motor mounts or even wheels. Sometimes suspension LOL. Yes, there are many that I’ve heard of. But one possability that has yet to be mentioned is timing. And since a nee cam is
now
in
place... Isn’t that followed by a timing check, or did you already do that and I forgot? A very good possability LOL

Also you said ” I'll check, but I'm pretty sure that's about all the turns out it's at (idle mixture). I'll check tomorrow to make sure, I'll also idle it down a c-hair more.” End quote; is that a brunette c-hair, red or blonde. Because we all know brunette c-hair is thicker AFAIK (;
