Default Oil change question

Hey there, I normally change my oil at a DIY shop in Eagle Rock CA. I have moved farther away and at this point it would be like commuting to work on a weekend just to change the oil. Anyway, I need supplies for home. I want a container that would hold the used oil until I took it to a place to recycle the oil. I am also looking for a container to catch the oil as it is draining.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Rick

Cool

Any old container! Once you've emptied your oil bottles into your bike they will do fine, in the meantime how about an old plastic milk bottle or any other similar thing lying around. I have old oil in various containers, including an old car screen washer bottle. I drain my oil into an old (very old) enamelled steel wash-bowl, then via a funnel into those bottles.

I've cut the side off of anti freeze jugs and used the jug as a catch pan.

I have a catch pan that I bought at Walmart. It has a reservoir underneath the catch part, and plugs so that you can use it to both catch the oil and store it until you dispose of it or pour it into the 5 quart jugs.

And I know right where Eagle Rock is. I graduated from Glendale High.

I use a drain pan from Walmart and an old plastic 5 gallon gas can to store the oil in until I can take it to a recycling center. Be careful of plastic milk jugs and such as they can leak or bleed though depending on the type of plastic.

Or you can be one with the Harley Davidson family and buy a drain pan at the dealer - then you will have bragging rights - lol

Any somewhat sturdy plastic container works, just make sure you label it "used oil" o it's not confused with something else.

As far as something to keep the oil off the bike while taking the filter off, I find a 2 liter soda bottle cut in half lengthwise (except for the end that has the cap) makes a good catch/diverter that fits nicely under the filter and routes the oil away from the engine into your catch can/container. I like the drain pan I bought at Harley.
It is short enough to slide under a bike on it's kick stand and long enough to catch all the oil when I take off the outer primary.

Ditto. I think I payed about $25.00 when I bought it. It was the only one that would slide under a FXDL that I had.

thrift stores have all kinds of pans or you can go to any auto parts store and get an oil change pan.
