A while back I posted a question about how to improve the braking on my '99 S'tail. Well, now I've gotten the final answer to my stopping problem. My orthopedic surgeon who replaced both my knees 8 years ago just told me that the right one will have to be redone, and I'm liable to loose up to an inch in height. Looks like I'm goin' to have to sell my scoot to help pay for the pleasure of being back in rehab.
My question to you educated owners is have you a ballpark idea as to what my bike could be sold for?
1999 Softail
Just came off a 1,000+ mile ride from Las Vegas to the California coast (SanTa Barbara)
New lots of stuff
Well serviced and re-tired just before the ride.
Mucho chrome
"Bout all it needs is an owner with two good knees.
I'm not sure if I should just keep it and stare at it from time to time. Or, bite the bullet and use the sale proceeds to offset some of the surgical costs.
What say you?
I say keep it if at all possible.
When your knee heals you're gonna want to ride again and the used bike market is real soft so you probably won't get much for it.
Yeah, I say keep it. What's a few thousand thrown toward that bill? Not much. If rehab isn't covered by whatever you have, rehab it yourself. You should know how to do it by now.
As stated by the others. Trying to sell it now will hurt more than the rehab. Market is soft and as clean as it may be, you have it like YOU want it, and the market value right now would insult you.
Worth so much more to be there, as a goal for recovery and a get away after healing.
If I don't sell I don't get new knee?
I'll never be able to enjoy riding again?
Will what I get for it make a difference?
Am I willing to take a chance on buying some one else's head aches?

Gotta agree with the others: That's a beautiful bike. Personally, if I was going through the rehab on a knee replacement, I'd want that bike in the garage as motivation.
Keep it for now poprivit! Im in the same boat- another surgery for me in 2 weeks. Dont know how its gonna go either. Will i be able to ride again or not???
Im holding on to my rides- but im not spending money on them either. And my v-rod purchase got put on hold too. But im hopeful!!
Hang in there!
