85 WAS start of the belt on the FXRS and FXRT ONLY... ALL others were still a chain..

I'm assuming you are talking about FXR's only, and not other models in the lineup.

So... you cats are saying the 1985 FXR [EA] was a Chain drive final, and the FXRS [EB] was a Belt drive final?????

I know full well what the 1982 and '83 was... Have had my '82 since showroom new, and the '83 is in good rig, except the engine was trashed...

BTW pjb... the 4 speed belt was started about '82 on select models..
So... the 4 speed got a belt, while the FXR and FXRS, got a Chain...
Something learned from AMF perhaps????
^^^ Tongue in Cheek there... as obviously all of the personnel were basically Unchanged save for Management!!!

Think my 1980 FXB was the first belt - definitely the only dual belt.

Yes the Sturgis was...
a CVO before there was a CVO!!!!!!
I'm talking Regular Production...

Edit; Brain Fart.... maybe that is exactly why the 4 speed got the darn belt final...when the 5 speeds did Not...
Already BTDT !!!! Almost sensible!!!!

I bought my 85 FXWG, and not the 85 FXST, for the belt.
FXST didn't go to the belt until 86 when it went to 5 speed.
84 FXWG was a shovel 4 speed with rear belt.

Probably. - Also the death of the enclosed primary belt when they found heat adversely affected the belt.

That is correct.. it was a special construction.
In the FXR normal production line it is as I stated, based on the info from Ronnie's... I'll check the parts books I have as well...

Racepres you are right on with the division of the 82's and 83's compared to the 84's...

I think a 86 FXRS for $3800 is a good price. You could expect some issues, its 30+ year old bike.

Yeah maybe if they were age related but this was not the case. You shouldn't have to do a valve job on a motor with only 18k on the clock..

You'll take a beating getting FXR specific parts. They can be money pits. For a long time they were undesireable, last few years parts have skyrocketed.

I tend to snag parts whenever I see a deal. I got a frame and almost enough parts....just waiting.

I wish they would go back to being uncool again. They really are a great bike.
