That is correct.. it was a special construction.
In the FXR normal production line it is as I stated, based on the info from Ronnie's... I'll check the parts books I have as well...
Racepres you are right on with the division of the 82's and 83's compared to the 84's...
Well since "Ronnies" is Not the official Historian... just another internet "know it all" Can you share what your parts book shows??
I am still very perplexed about the FXR vs FXRS and Final Belts!!!
My Book is too Old to show any such differences... being chains only!!!
Thanks
An Education is never a Bad Thing...
I checked my 84 fxstc 84-86 FX parts manual and it does not list an FXR it any of it's models.. appearantly the FXR is a breed of it's own... the only thing I have to go by is Ronnie's.... Which is correct with the information that is stated in my 84-86 manual for the FX so why would it be different? I will continue my quest till I can find the appropriate manual...
there was no FXSTC until 1986.
For 1984 and 1985 there was only one model softail, the basic FXST. Both years was 4 speed kickstart, rear chain.
1986 the softail went to 5 speed (no kick), belt drive, and introduced the FXSTC softail custom and the FLST Heritage.

well I ain't surprised... it don't claim to cover FXR's... note FX to me Denotes 4-speed... FXST denotes Softail, FL... well you get it...
and again... it is Not Difficult to find errors in Ronnies.... Even a MoCo source is Not better than what folks bought New... off the Showroom!!!!
Especially that early in the new Ownership!!!! I feel that it took the new Regime at least 4 to 5 Years to offer something that was Not already on the Drawing Board... but, how Faithfully did they adhere to the original Drawings??? And How well was that documented???
If he told you it ran well, knowing that you were coming from that far away then that really sucks. The problem is once you catch someone hiding one thing, well you know theres about 5 other things he knows about that you dont (and hes not going to tell you). I like it when people point out things i would miss unless they did (paint chip here, this is loose there, will prob need new tires, bike can run rough until its warm) I sometimes go overboard telling people every little thing i know thats not perfect about the bike. I think i wind up losing some buyers that way, but i always want people to have 0 surprises after their purchase. Unfortunately most people do not feel that way when selling.
the c in my 85 flhtc only means it's a 2 tone paint job. that was the extent of custom in 1985.
not completely true. My buddy bought a new 1985 FXRC, Low Glide Custom. Limited Edition, each numbered. I think the numbering was on the handlebar clamp or headlight shroud, #xx of xxxx kind of thing.
One of the earliest Evos that came with chrome engine covers. It was a burnt orange color, with brown seat.
He just sold it this year, and it was in mint condition.
I'm positive about the year, and details, because he bought it right after I bought my 1985 FXWG that I still have.

But but but..... An FLHT is Not an FXR, which don't even resemble an FXWG!!!!!
BTW, I do recall that model with Orange paint and Brown seat... Friend of mine still has his...
yeah, one could spend their whole life trying to correct all the factually incorrect statements that are made.
Once the statement is made, and then repeated by some unknowing person, it's presumed to be fact.
Such is the internet. LOL
