There are several things about that bike that look off and don’t quite add up. It might just be one guy’s customization or it might be the result of rebuilding from a crash.

I wouldn’t entirely rule it out, but I would be suspicious and closely examine it.

If he has receipts / records / documentation of what was done to it, then no problem. Without that, proceed with caution.

Getting the VIN could also help a lot.

I think it started life as a Fat Boy. The springer front end was added. Floorboards were removed and replaced with forward controls.

The profile pf the tires look weird and remond if something from a newer Fat Bob. Wheel size looks larger than stock. OEM spokes of that era we’re not chrome like that.

it might be an optical illusion, but the picture of the rear of the bike looks like the fender, frame, or something is twisted

I have a 1995 Heritage. It is not a springer. The front disc brake is on the left side of my bike. The bike pictured has the front disc on the right side.

It’s worth looking at, but overall first impression is not to buy

Some of the posts in this thread are incorrect. The FXSTS was a springer version of the Softail Custom with the 21” skinny front wheel. It was introduced around 1988 or 1989. The FLSTS that was introduced later was the Heritage Springer (different names of this model were used over the years for essentially the same bike) It had the smaller diameter wide tire like the regular Heritage Softail Classic.

Go check the bike out but go there with low expectations.

LOL... I could Flip that bike so fast, you wouldn't remember I had it.
Front end is worth a Grand on the market...wheel or no [BTW Brake is Correct] But Heritage Front ends are no different really from "Custom Softail" front ends... just the Custom is Naked, and some Chrome bits...
Wheels???? Completely Interchangeable... without a Thought... 16" and 21" are the Same darn Hub!!!!

I agree ...Check that VIN..... Always... No Matter what.

.
If you are talking about springers...the FX and FL are completely different...brakes are on opposite sides...and you can't change that without welding...

Fenders are mounted completely different...again will not interchange without major work...

And they have a different rake...from an offset stem...which is why they take a different top tree...

And some of the CVO's have an FL springer with an FX rake...

FX wheels have a weird offset, and it is hard to get a normal wheel centered under the fender...

When Harley first quit making them...prices went crazy...and i used to buy/build/sell springers...now they don't bring the big bucks they used to...I still have 3 or 4 in the garage...

Ugh... Went to the basement before work... Kind of made me think. Rare occurrence!

Mine is a 1996 plus Springer even though my bike is a 1995. Prot, all the springers I remember have the disc on the right side. The 1995 and down have the spacer/speedometer pickup on the left.

I put a BDL brake, two piston stopper since the moco stock offering was not good.

You could easily wedge a fat fender in there, look at the spacer combo fender hardware. It's got the room.
OP, $4900 ain't bad at all.

You're right.
Nice collection you got there. I thought the market was still strong for even an FX Springer.

I see the pre-war stuff asking for absurd pricing but I still see a lot of it for sale just not sold. I guess I mean to say is that as we get older the younger guys don't have the same wants or desires for vintage motorcycling.

Not a bad price, but a pieced together bike, need the VIN to decipher it. It’s probably started as FL but that’s a FX springer.

i would guess a salvage title, Lots of scams on CL though

Thank you for all the replies. In speaking with the current owner, he described the last owner as a true biker (insert your own definition) and that his dad was a Harley mechanic. He also said the fenders were not stock, as well as the bars and exhaust. He did say he has all of the original tins, handlebar and exhaust.

The owner is in Florida for 10 days. He said he will contact me when he gets back. I'll go look at it, but with low expectations and a suspicious eye.

I'll keep you posted.

I had a 1990 Springer....(see pictures) Not sure what that bike for sale is.
The fact that he didn't talk about the changes made and calls it "mint" would scare me away.

I liked mine a lot...sold it to buy an '07 CVO Springer. I grew to embrace the dirt-bike front fender.

Repainted
