Default Running lights mod completed

As posted elsewhere I decided that I wanted to modify my rear turn signals to signal/running lights but did not want to spend upwards of $120 to do it. So after weighing my options I decided the cheapest way, but the one that involved the most amount of work, would be to swap out the single filament sockets for dual filament sockets. So here it is.

My starting point. I removed the rear light bar and took off the signal light housings.

Then I tapped into my tail light line and added a plug. (Red wire, blue plug.)

Next I broke off the stock socket retainers and pulled out the single filament sockets

Then I hogged out the holes to accept the new sockets, mixed up some epoxy and in they went.

A few hours later I clipped the plug ends from the old sockets and soldered them on to the new signal wires.

Finally I attached the two running light wires together and added a male end for the previously installed hot line and screwed it all together and bolted up the light bar to the fender.

Now I feel better having a lot more light back there.

And there you have it. Now I just need to scare up a pair of red lenses to replace the ambers . Not counting the bulbs which I already had, total cash outlay - just under $10.oo. Can't beat that.

Thank you for this. I've been wanting to do the same but wasn't sure how to get it done. I'm a wood butcher not an electrician.
