Default Engine stabilizer links...when to replace?

Just looking for things to throw money at...
Replacing the rubber mount. What about the stabilizer links? How do I know if those are bad? Are they like a heim joint, the center bushing should move freely? Mine are very rigid...the center bushing seems frozen in position, like some sort of rigor mortis pose. Is it time? Oh. 1990 ultra

If you can locate O.E. Go Ahead... the Chiwanese replacements for that I wouldn't be able to Throw Far Enough... never seen them last ...

When to replace?

Well, back a few years ago, way back when the bike first hit the streets under the new owner, that's when it's time to replace those clevecrap bushings in the swingarm.

When I installed my True-Track kit, with the extra (third) stabilizer about ten years ago, I also bought two of their stainless links to replace the original tired ones. The heim joint spherical centres should be free moving, so if yours are solid they ain't working for you!

That's an interesting question, right there.

The thing is, these stabilizer links don't have normal heim joints...the kind that wobble freely in the shell. The ones they have are like rubber dampened.

I thought about going to Grainger and getting regular heims on mine just to see what would happen, but with all the other changes I'm making on the ElectraGlide this winter, I didn't want to add another variable.

I did get new (OEM) joints. I think I'll cut one of the old ones apart and have a look.

If your swing arm has not been addressed I think that is where your money should go

The stock rod doesn't have heim joints, they use a simple clevis and pin at each end. Frankly they are not worth messing with, just bite the bullet and get a new rod with proper heim joints. You'll soon understand why we recommend them! I bought a H-D aftermarket one, #33814-98A, or one very similar.

not trying to sound like a dick...but I'm looking for info about the stabilizer links. Swing arm is being addressed. Trying to stay on topic

Any way...ive been looking around the internet and found some heim joints with bronze bearing surfaces. And then some with nylon. Cant find small joints with the rubber insert. Wonder if either of those would be suitable. The bushings in my joints are frozen in situ, and will not move. Might experiment with those some
