Not worth it to me. I'd rather just slap on some adapters.
At that time.....the fork seals had to be replaced. My 1998 sliders were pitted and were crappy looking. Used take offs were cheap and plentiful from 2000+.

Otherwise.....I would have gone the adapter route.

On my 1997, the 2000 parts where a direct bolt on. Just bought sliders and brake caliper, the rest was stock from my 1997, been setup like that for at least 10 years. Super cheap way to get the four piston calipers and cleaner than the adapter brackets.

IIRC up to '06 still used 3/4" axles.

Huh... So what year did the Touring line go to the 4-pot calipers?

Not that I'm going to change my plans, just curious. I always thought the change to 4-pot also included the 1" axle change so the fork lowers wouldn't be such an easy swap.

Bigger axles started in 2000 on the touring models, bud bought one of the first to hit the showroom. The 2K and later Dyna's & softails I haven't had hands on with so don't know about them

I have a set of pre 06 lower legs and a couples sets of calipers in my stash yet, did several shovel conversions to later stuff for bud's. Be getting rid of those as I downsize

I believe Dynas and sportys switched in '03 so that is an option I wish I looked into a little more. It's whatever though, I found a set of pre 99 freshly precoated black that I like a lot, so I'm doing the adaptors.

Pretty sure all the bikes went 4 piston in 2000.

1999 Dynas and Touring are setup weird, Twin Cam motors with single piston calipers.

Softails still had Evo's in 1999.

It was a strange transition year for them.

Touring models did get new calipers in 2000.
They also got the one inch bearing up front in 2000. In 2002.....they finally got the one inch bearing in the rear. Brembo calipers started showing up in 2008-2009.
