Default 1987 Primary help needed

My buddy has a 1987 FXR Low Rider. He is buying a new S&S motor and Baker Tranny. However he doesnt want the open primary with belt that came with the bike. He would like to get a closed primary. Can anyone help out and give a list parts that we need?

Vulcan Works might be able to help, maybe Dennis Kirk. Rivera Primo used to be in the business for what you are lookig for but I don't know if they are still in business anymore.

Well, it really depends on the transmission, is it a splined mainshaft, or a tapered mainshaft?

Is he using the original transmission case?

Most likely he will be using the original transmission case. And install a baker DD5 direct drive speed builders kit. I am trying to see if maybe he will consider the Baker Overdrive 6 speed complete transmission. Our MC Bro is a dealer for just about everything. And the MC Bro who needs all these parts did work on the MC Bros house who owns the shop. So they had an agreement where all parts will be sold at cost and other parts will be given to him as payment. The one who is getting the parts got the better end of the deal though. Anyway becauseof the deal Im hoping he winds up with a OD6 complete transmission. It all depends on cost.

Regarding your question whether his main shaft is splined or tapered. That I am not sure off. I'm going to have to go find out. Can you let me know what the differences are between a splined and tapered mainshaft? And would it matter whether it was splined or tapered if he had a OD6 complete transmission installed?

You really need to get in touch with Baker Drivetrain when ordering this gearset.

The bike is an 87, which originally came with a tapered mainshaft, but since the owner is replacing all primary components it would be much better to use a splined mainshaft and then use later model components to finish off the primary drive.

Maybe Mark from Baker Drivetrain will chime in here with some info...
