Default Shift pawl screw Help.

This si on an 86 FLHTC Liberty Edition. I have searched all over and can not find an answer.
I went out today to adjust my shift pawl today .
I found that the previous owner had broke the adjuster screw off. I have not removed the inner / outer primary's yet. I believe I can get the old adjuster out.
Is at as simple as take the old one out and put the new one in or will the springs shift everything inside making it impossible to do that?
what is the simplest way of going about changing the adjuster screw ?
All this nice weather, I just want to ride. Thanks in advance.
Matt

Why are you having to make an adjustment? You'll probably want to pull the tranny top cover off to better install the new shifter pawl adjuster screw. Re-inspect to see if the shifter pawl adjuster screw is really broken. Check if you have the allen/socket or hex head style adjuster screw.

I was having trouble shifting into 3rd and so I checked the adjustment and found that it wasn't not centered with with equal tension like it's supposed to be. I was able to adjust it and get it right but with the screw broken the are barely enough threads left to get the jamnut back on. This one is the Allen head type. I have the broken piece of the screw. I believe the replacement will be the hex head type. I have found both but it's a pain getting an Allen wrench in there.

Got it. In that case, I would replace the shifter pawl adjustment screw (prefer hex head type). Without being able to snug it down, it will come out of adjustment anyhow. And it's probably better to take the tranny top off to make a better adjustment. Would only cost you a $5 gasket, and allow you to check the health of your shifter pawl assembly spring too.
