1994 Softail Evo Sumping
Hi All
Looking for a bit of feedback and insight here. I just picked up a 1994 evo Softail and I am not sure how long it has sat. I ran it for a bit an it sumped out almost all the oil in the reserve tank .
I had some other things to take care of on the bike and in the process I added new oil to it. When I started it again it started to sump out the fresh oil. Wouldn't the old oil in the cank come out the breather hose first ? Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix it.

Drain it and refill it, it may have sumped, then was topped off (putting to much oil into the system)
Then when it was started the excess oil is pumped back into the oil bag (tank),
With no room and nowhere else to go it pukes out the top of the bag.

In a case breather (which you don't have) the extra oil in the motor will be pumped out the breather until the motor has the correct amount of oil in it.
In a head breather (which is what you have) the extra oil will be pumped back into the oil tank until the motor has the correct amount of oil.
Where exactly is your motor pumping out the oil?
Sounds like the scavenger side of the oil pump isn't scavenging... And don't put any more oil in it... currently sounds like the case is full of oil but as Mike said it's not sumpin, it's not pumpin.....

You have a bottom breather or a head breather motor? Have to ask cause sometimes motors get replaced or mods are made..

Don`t add any oil until the engine stops puking.
Look into tank while the engine is running, make sure the oil is being sent back to the tank, if a lot of oil has accumulated down in the crankcase it will be more than the scavenge system can handle, that is why you are seeing it puke out the breather.
If you do not see any oil being returned to the tank, it may be a failure of the scavenge side of the oil pump, but it could also be a combination of mis connected oil lines on the oil filter adapter and an incorrect oil filter.
Check condition of all oil hoses, especially the oil lines to and from the oil filter.
Make sure the oil line from the oil pump to the filter is connected to the proper nipple on the oil filter adapter, it should go to the inlet side of the filter.

I just replaced all the oil lines.
It is possible one of them is miss directed I will double check.
I have a stock harley filter mounted. Previously the bike had its oil filter deleted so I had to re install the housing for the oil filter
